Home office how much can I

Canada

Canada (self-employed): You can claim a share of your home only if the workspace is your principal place of business, or you use it only for the business and meet clients, customers or patients there regularly. Share = the workspace area divided by the home's total area; if the room is also used personally, also multiply by business hours divided by 24. Apply that share to rent, heat, electricity, water, home insurance, cleaning and maintenance (and for owners, mortgage interest and property tax; claiming capital cost allowance on your home can cause tax when you sell, so ask first). The claim cannot be more than the business's net income; the unused part carries forward. Internet and phone are claimed separately by their business-use share. Printer ink, paper and office supplies used only for the business are claimed in full.
